About the Club

The Eastport Democratic Club—also called the “Dem Club”—is an all-volunteer community social club for anyone who likes to connect with friends, relax, get out of the house, laugh, talk, and enjoy low-cost drinks and fun gatherings. Membership is open to everyone. And, no, despite our name, we’re not political.

Think about the broad definition of democratic: “relating to, appealing to, or available to the broad masses of people; favoring social equality: not snobbish.” That’s what the Merriam-Webster Dic- tionary says—and that’s who we are.

During the Prohibition era, the “Dem Club” housed a speakeasy bar in the basement. At one time this was a place for Eastport workers to gather, change into their working clothes, and relax after a long day. The building is also thought to have served as a schoolhouse at one time.
